The NMSU Interdisciplinary Engineering Capstone Design Program represents the culmination of our students’ academic journey and the beginning of their professional transformation. Each year, senior students from multiple engineering disciplines are matched with real-world clients—from national laboratories and aerospace agencies to startups, nonprofits, and private industry—to solve authentic, high-impact challenges. These yearlong projects are not classroom exercises; they are rigorous, client-driven collaborations that result in functional prototypes, validated technologies, and often, pathways to commercialization. Through structured design reviews, hands-on fabrication, field testing, and public presentations, students experience the full life cycle of innovation, preparing them for immediate contribution in industry, graduate research, or entrepreneurial ventures.

The strength of this program lies in the deep engagement it offers to both students and partners. Clients benefit from fresh engineering insights, interdisciplinary thinking, and tangible deliverables developed with faculty mentorship and access to advanced NMSU facilities. Donors and sponsors see their support in action—fueling the growth of aspiring engineers and advancing solutions to real-world problems. The Capstone program showcases what makes an NMSU engineering education distinct: immersive experience, creative rigor, and a clear bridge from college to career. Whether you’re solving national security problems or designing systems to serve your local community, the NMSU Engineering Capstone Design Program is where tomorrow’s engineers rise to meet today’s most pressing challenges.
